Hummerfest utilizes bright red plastic to attract, thereby eliminating the need for red dye - found to be potentially harmful to young hummingbirds - in the nectar solution. Hummerfest features a built-in ant guard moat with automatic rainwater overflow so as not to dilute the nectar solution. Better than bottle type feeders, the dish design never drips, is easiest to clean and refill, and can even be placed in the dishwasher!
To make your own hummingbird nectar, add 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Boil this solution for a few minutes. Then cool before adding to feeder. The left-over solution can be stored in the refrigerator. This solution will ferment rather quickly outide, so be sure to replace this solution at least once per week. For best results, place feeder in shady spot rather than in direct sunlight. DO NOT use red dye in the solution. If you have a different feeder that has no red on it, just tie a red bow on the feeder somewhere. Hummingbirds simply look for red when hunting for nectar.
